Transition
Our main aim is to ensure that our learners settle in well in the school as soon as possible. Many activities are planned in order to facilitate the process of moving from primary school to Ysgol David Hughes. These include:
The Headteacher and the Head of Year 7 visiting primary schools and Year 6 pupils during the Autumn Term.
An open evening for Yr. 6 learners and their parents in November (virtual evening in 2020).
Mathematics Activities during the Autumn and Spring Terms.
A variety of sports activities throughout the year including a Santa Run before Christmas.
A Transition Magazine jointly prepared between Yr. 6 learners in the cluster and Yr. 7 learners from Ysgol David Hughes.
An annual joint transition project which varies in terms of theme – a joint unit of work between primary and secondary during the Summer Term.
Visit days for Year 6 in June – to become familiar with the school site and arrangements; meet their teachers and make new friends.
At the beginning of the Autumn Term, there’s usually an opportunity for Yr. 7 learners to spend a few days in Glanllyn to get to know each other and their teachers better.
